2016 Patek Philippe Ladies Magazine Ad

2016 Patek Philippe Ladies Magazine Ad
Ladies Annual Calendar Reference 4947R

I noticed tis gorgeous Patek Philippe magazine ad in the November 2016 Architectural Digest. The ladies Annual Calendar with a moonphase is beautiful!!! As I understand it, Patek Philippe Thierry Stern's wife designed this magnificent ladies watch!!! It's kind of bizarre to note this ad does not have Patek Philippe's web address on it, which makes it look very old school.

Unique Sky Moon Celestial Patek Philippe-Rose Gold: Reference 5106

Unique Heavenly Patek Philippe Celestial
44mm Rose Gold with Date
Reference 5106

Kamille is a reader of Jake's Patek Philippe World and he wrote in today to ask what the "blue beauty" was the upper right hand corner of the banner on Jake's Patek Philippe World, so I thought I would share this. In 2009, Patek Philippe made this one-of-a-kind Reference 5106, which is based upon the celestial Reference 5102. This unique rose gold watch features a special hand-tooled guilloché etching on its 22kt gold bezel.

This unique Patek Philippe shows the night sky of the northern hemisphere as it rotates backwards (counter-clockwise). This illustrates the angular progression of the stars as they appear, relative to Sirius (Meridian Passage).

The User Interface also displays the angular position of the moon as well as its phases and meridian passage. All of this apparent magic is achieved by a number of sapphire crystal discs that are stacked on top of each other and move at different speeds. The blue sapphire crystal that shows the cobalt blue background has 279 teeth and it shows the moon orbit, including the orbit of the moon, in a round aperture.

There is another transparent disc with 356 teeth that shows the Milky Way Galaxy. The Patek Philippe Reference 5106 has an exhibition case-back which allows viewing of the 325 part movement. The photo below seems to show the exact same watch, but I noticed the photo on the top has a red date arm, as apposed to the one below having a gold one.

This one of kind Patek Philippe was auctioned on September 24th, 2011 for 535,000 Euros (around $750,000) by Patrizzi & Co during the Monaco Yacht Show, which was attended by HSH Prince Albert II. All the proceeds of the sale went to support research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Dalai Lama Reveals His Patek Philippe Pocketwatch

Dalai Lama
Reveals His Patek Philippe Pocketwatch
Gift from U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt in 1943

It has been known for a long time that his Holiness, The Dalai Lama was given a Patek Philippe Pocket-watch by U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt. Until today, the Dalai Lama's Patek Philiipe has never been seen, but in the photo below we see his holiness showing his watch off in Washington DC.

The photo below is a close-up photo of His Holiness, The Dalai Lama holding his Patek Phillipe & Company [Reference 658] pocket watch.

It was U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy who shared this magnificent Patek Philippe watch to the world. Senator Patrick Leahy is pictured below with His Holiness, The Dalai Lama in Washington DC, along with Mrs. Leahy.

Senator Patrick Leahy showcased the Dalai Lama's Patek Philippe in a Tweet on Twitter Today, as seen below.

A Treasured Gift Of Friendship From

U.S. President

Franklin Roosevelt

The Patek Philippe was a given to The Dalai Lama as a gift from U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt in 1943. During World War II , the Allied Powers wanted to build a road through Tibet, from India that continued to China. In 1943, two American agents from the Office Of Strategic Services delivered a package to the young Dalai Lama from U.S. President Roosevelt, which contained a letter and a complicated yellow-gold Patek Phillipe Reference 658 Pocket-watch model.

BaselWorld 2016 Introduction Reference 5396

BaselWorld 2016 Introduction
38.5MM Reference 5396

Patek Philippe introduced some interesting new watches at BaselWorld 2016, and I think my favorite is the 20th Anniversary version of the Reference 5396.

I really like this Patek Philippe as seen in rose gold with the silvery white opaline dial. It is interesting to note the minute track markers are slightly sunk into the dial in contrast with the Breguet numerals that raised. This provides for a unique contrast...

The 20th Anniversary Reference 5396 comes in two different models. A white gold version with a grey sunburst dial and a Rose Gold with a white, as seen above and below. Both will retail for around $47,000.

Both models offer a movement caliber of 324 S QA LU 24H, and have a power reserve of 45 hours. Today the Patek Reference 5396 is one of Patek Philippe's best selling complicated watches. Patek Philippe first introduced the annual calendar in 1996 as the Reference 5035.

For the life of me, I can't figure out whether I like the 20th Anniversary version better than the standard version with the button markers!!?!

One of the things that makes a Patek Philippe a Patek Philippe is the typically invisible details that are hidden in plain sight. Also, when you hold these watches off angle, the way they reflect light changes significantly, and you really see the beauty of their super-precise designs. This "off-angle beauty" I speak of is evident in the photo above and below.
